ALBION, Mich. – Brian Fiorillo achieved the Dean Aquatic Center pool record with his leg in the 400-yard freestyle relay and Albion College secured first place performances in all 10 events in a 133-36 victory over Alderson Broddus in a non-league men's swimming & diving dual meet.
Fiorillo, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association's 2013 Most Valuable Swimmer, completed the first leg of the freestyle relay in 47.1 seconds. The team comprised of Fiorillo, Derek Bosko, Brad Melpolder, and Austin Bateman achieved a time of 3:14.84.
Fiorillo also swam to first place in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Andrew Mattson won a pair of individual events – the 400-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly – and he was a member of the winning medley relay team at the end of the meet. Nick Deppner, also a member of the medley relay, secured first place in the 50-yard freestyle.
Phil Bommarito and Mike Crinion took turns winning the diving events, Josh Boren won the 100-yard backstroke, and Blake Blair beat the field in the 1,650-yard freestyle.
Albion will swim again tomorrow against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Alma College.
