Box Score ALMA, Mich. – Albion College defeated Alma College, 1-0, Saturday to walk off the pitch with sole possession of fourth place in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's soccer standings.
The Britons improved to 5-4-1 against league rivals with the victory. Calvin College is 4-4-2 after playing to a scoreless draw at Trine.
Caroline Eagan produced the only goal of the contest. Her corner kick in the 29th minute somehow bent near the goal and curled off the Alma goalkeeper's hands. It was Eagan's sixth goal and her second game-winning score of the season.
Alma dominated possession in the second half, taking 17 of its 23 shots during that time. The Scots, however, placed only five shots on goal as Maggie Troost gained her second shutout of the season.
"Our back line played much better today," Albion Coach Eric Scott said. "It is hard to single out a few players, however, because the whole team worked to keep that clean sheet."
Albion was credited with 14 shots. Eagan took four, placing two on goal. Sam LaRooca generated three shots (one on goal) and Jenna Urso and Domenique Sarnecky had two shots apiece.
Albion, 9-4-1 overall, returns home for a 4 p.m. Tuesday contest against Adrian College.
