Box Score OLIVET, Mich. – Molly Hancock scored twice in the first half and Jenna Urso tacked on two goals in the second half as Albion College outscored Olivet College, 4-2, in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's soccer contest.
It was the third win in a row for the Britons who improved to 8-3-1 overall and 4-3-1 against league rivals. Albion is tied with Kalamazoo College for third place in the league standings after the first round of the double round-robin schedule.
"Across the board, this was a team win," Albion Coach Eric Scott said. "Everyone that went in understood their role well. They did everything we asked of them, and what they asked of each other."
Hancock scored a pair of unassisted goals in a 101-second span. She struck in the 31st and 33rd minutes.
Urso scored what turned out to be the game-winner 20 minutes into the second half. Albion led 3-1 at that time.
Urso's second goal, with 15 seconds left in the contest, was assisted by Caroline Eagan. Urso, who raised her total to eight goals in her first season at the collegiate level, has produced the game-winning goals in the last two contests.
"Jenna and Molly took their chances well, and I was pleased with Jenna's first goal, as it was a nice build up into the box, and she stayed composed in that moment," Scott said.
Scott also praised forward Domenique Sarnecky though she did not get a tally on the score sheet. Mikaela Ray was also singled out for recognition.
"Domenique was fantastic holding the play up for us up top, securing possession, and slipped a couple players through for chances," Scott said. "Mikaela did well to disrupt their attack, and made a commitment in the second half to win more 50/50 balls."
Albion begins the second round of league play Wednesday with a 4 o'clock home match against Hope College.
