Britons Warm Up For MIAA Tournament

Box Score

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College turned in one last exhibit of how it qualified for the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women's Soccer Tournament Monday when it played to a scoreless draw with Olivet College.

The result moved the Britons to 4-0-4 in matches against league rivals that stretched to overtime. Albion, which finished the season with a 7-5-4 record against league rivals, has the No. 4 seed for the MIAA Tournament. The Britons will travel to Holland, Mich., Thursday for a 6 p.m. matchup against league champion Hope College.

Neither team generated many scoring chances Monday. Both teams were credited with five shots on goal in the 110-minute contest. Olivet's most dangerous chances – Isabelle Leon hit the post and Nicole Borek clanked a shot off the crossbar in the first half – did not result in shots on goal.

Albion pressed for the game-winning score early in the first overtime period. Jenna Urso, Albion's leading scorer with 12 goals, had her shot stopped by goalkeeper Kori Ramirez and a header by Domenique Sarnecky was blocked. Sarnecky also sent a header over the goal in the 95th minute.

Sarnecky and Sam LaRocca finished the day with three shots apiece for the Britons.

Albion goalkeeper Molly Troost was up to the task, and she finished her fifth shutout of the season. Troost, who have not allowed a goal in 368 minutes, shaved her goals against average to 1.33.
