KENOSHA, Wis. – Albion College racked up 71 points in the 50-yard freestyle and 52 points in the 400 individual medley Friday night as it sits in second place in the Carthage College Winter Classic.
Carthage leads the seven-team field with 850 points, with Albion sitting in second with 591. The Britons have a healthy margin over third-place Lake Forest College which has totaled 461 points.
"What's starting to happen is we have depth and options," Albion Head Coach Jake Taber said. "It is creating opportunity and healthy competition within the team. It is a good problem to have."
Anna Hargrove, Madison Vaive and Molly Blank finished fourth, fifth, and sixth, respectively, in the 50 free, with Lauren Pawelec adding points with a ninth place finish.
Sarah Kilbride led Albion in the IM, finishing fourth. MacKenzie Chesley and Haley DeFeyter contributed sixth and seventh place finishes, respectively.
Kilbride also produced a runner-up finish in the 200 butterfly. Hargrove (100 backstroke) and Laura Steavenson (500 freestyle) were third in their respective events.
Taber added the Britons are ahead of where they were last year in the breaststroke as Hailey Sambor and Kylene Slocum finished sixth and seventh, respectively.
