Seniors Brian Fiorillo and Brad Melpolder set the table for sophomores Josh Boren and Tom Parsons to beat some teams to the wall Friday and the members of Albion College's 800-yard freestyle relay will return to campus as honorable mention All-Americans.
The Britons finished 14th in the NCAA Division III Championship, completing the race in 6:48.18.
Melpolder achieved a school-record when he completed his 200-yard leg in 1:41.26. Fiorillo previously held the school standard, covering the distance in 1:41.56 during the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships in February.
"It is always nice to move up from where you were seeded coming into the meet," Albion Coach Jake Taber said, referring to Albion's 16th seed prior to the race.
Albion has scored 13 points in the NCAA Championship and the Britons are tied for 32nd place in the team standings.
Fiorillo and Derek Bosko will represent Albion in the 100-yard freestyle and the 400-yard freestyle relay on Saturday. Boren and Melpolder complete the relay roster.
