ALBION, Mich. – Irene Chen won No. 3 singles for the deciding point to lift Albion College to a 5-4 victory over Saint Mary's College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's tennis contest.
Chen pulled out a first-set tiebreaker against Jackie Kjolhede and then she cruised with a 6-1 score in the second set. Chen is 12-1 in singles matches on the year.
Albion dominated the top of the lineup, winning No. 1 and No. 2 doubles and No. 1 (Marissa Cloutier) and No. 2 (Katie Blumberg) singles. Cloutier and Blumberg lost five games in winning their singles matches in straight sets.
Blumberg and Chen were 8-1 winners at the top of the doubles lineup and Cloutier and Heather Vogt won the No. 2 match, 8-2.
Albion, 11-1 overall and 5-0 against MIAA rivals, hosts Trine University for an April 15 match.
