Men's Swimming and Diving

'It Was An Encouraging Day'

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College Head Coach Jake Taber was encouraged despite a 124-106 loss to Wabash College in a non-league men's swimming & diving dual meet.

"The updated College Swimming Coaches Association Division III rankings came out this week and Wabash was ranked in the top 20 – again," Taber said. "It was really nice for us to see a team like Wabash. They are going to have good representation in Texas at the NCAA Division III Championships.

"This was a healthy dual meet for us," Taber added. "It provided everybody on our team with an opportunity to race. We were able to focus on the things we needed to see. We saw some people step up. It was an encouraging day."

It was no surprise where the Britons received the bulk of their points.

Sebastian Tostado swam to first place in the 200-yard freestyle (1:45.43) and 200 backstroke (1:56.62) and he was part of the winning 400 free relay.

In addition to anchoring the free relay, Derek Bosko battled Elliot Johns in the sprint freestyle events. Bosko completed the 50 in 22.18 seconds for winning margin of eight-hundredths of a second, but he was touched out in the 100. Johns reached the 100 finish in 48.14 seconds, just ahead of Bosko's 48.67.

Parker Belmore and David Alday completed Albion's free relay. In individual events, Belmore finished as the runner-up to Tostado in the 200 free and he was third in the 200 back. Alday was third in the 100 free.

Jacob Maurer reaped an impressive score on his fifth attempt off the 1-meter board to achieve a healthy first-place 216.9 total. He completed the diving sweep with a 206.1 total off the 3-meter board.

Blake Blair scored in the distance freestyle events, placing second in the 1,000 (10:35.24) and third in the 500 (5:14.53). Sean Pearce finished third in the 1,000.

Kyle Harvey contributed third-place points in the 400 IM and Lucas Harder was third in the 200 breaststroke.

Albion's final dual meet of the season is a Jan. 30 home event against Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Olivet College.
