ALBION, Mich. – Jake Burris and Gerardo Huidobro made impressive debuts at the Dean Aquatic Center as Albion College earned a 155-26 victory over Alma College in a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association men's swimming & diving dual meet.
Burris achieved a NCAA regional qualifying score and came up just short of the school record in 1-meter diving. His six-dive total was 302.4 points. Burris also took first place in 3-meter with a score of 261.97. Henry Swett was the runner-up in both diving events.
Huidobro completed the 200-yard breaststroke in 2:09.20, a pool record. He started fast, completing the first 50 in 28.26 seconds.
Nate Kozycki scored first place points in two events, finishing the 100 backstroke in 55.99 seconds and the 100 freestyle in 49.8 seconds.
Other event winners for Albion included Sean Pearce in the 1,000 freestyle (11:32.82), Derek Bosko in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:03.54), Parker Belmore in the 500 freestyle (5:13.88), and Kyle Harvey in the 400 individual medley (4:32.37).
Bosko turned in the fastest time in the 100 butterfly (55.71 seconds) and Sebastian Tostado completed the 50 freestyle in 22.22 seconds, but they were swimming exhibition.
Albion will dive into the pool at Chesterton, Ind., High School Sunday for a non-league meet against Carthage (Wis.) College and the Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
