GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Nate Kozycki won the butterfly events and was a member of the first-place 200-yard medley relay as Albion College completed competition in a two-day quadrangular meet.
Kozycki's winning times in the butterfly events were 51.87 seconds in the 100 and 1:59.27 in the 200. His 23.03-second split on the third leg of the medley relay allowed Derek Bosko to swim a 21.11 split as Albion finished in 1:35.34. Sebastian Tostado and Gerardo Huidobro swam the first two legs of the relay.
"Nate continues to want to know what he can do better," Taber said of the first-year student-athlete who prepped at Northview High School in the Grand Rapids area. "He is swimming smart races."
Albion finished a dominant weekend in relay events by winning the 400 freestyle relay in 3:10.47. Tom Parsons gave Albion a 48.54-second split and Parker Belmore went 48.18 as the Britons won four of the five relay events contested in the meet.
"We have a two-headed monster in Sebastian and Derek and that will always give us a shot to win relay events," Taber said.
The most impressive individual event may have been the 200 breaststroke where Huidobro touched the wall in 2:08.14 to defeat Johnson Cochran, the 2015 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Most Valuable Swimmer. Lucas Harder finished third in 2:12.84.
Albion had the top two swimmers in the 100 freestyle with Bosko beating Tostado to the wall. Bosko's winning time was 46.98 seconds. Tostado added a runner-up finish in the 200 freestyle.
Albion returns to dual meets Nov. 14 when it swims at Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival Kalamazoo College.
