Box Score

ALBION, Mich. – Albion College scored on six consecutive possessions as it overcame a shaky start to pull away for a 66-28 victory over Alma College.

In the process, Albion (8-1 overall, 5-1 MIAA) secured a share of its 36th Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship. The Britons complete the regular season with a non-league game at Aurora University next Saturday.

Dylan Zaborowski threw a pair of touchdown strikes to Daniel Hugan and one to Erik Hines as Alma led 21-7.

"We settled down and started playing," Albion Head Coach Craig Rundle said. "We didn't have focus early, but, to our credit, we didn't get rattled.

"A league championship is special for every group," Rundle added. "It's hard to win one game, yet alone a championship."

The Albion offense started by going three-and-out on three of its first four possessions, but the unit got a jump start on a 33-yard run by Mike Czarnecki. Colin Parks covered the last 24 yards on the next play as the Britons trailed 21-14 five minutes into the second quarter.

A Jeremy Shephard interception set the Britons up at the Alma 2-yard line for the next possession. The Britons settled for a 20-yard field goal by Andrew Fabry after Czarnecki and Parks were unable to punch the ball into the end zone.

Albion's string of touchdowns started on the last possession of the first half as Mikal McKoy, running a slant route, hauled in a 4-yard pass from Dominic Bona.

The Britons held a 24-21 lead at halftime and they would never trail in the second half.

Bona threw touchdown passes to Kyle Slotnick and Joe Mayone and scampered for a 6-yard score in the third quarter. Czarnecki added a 10-yard touchdown run in the quarter.

Bona, who threw for 285 yards and ran for 75, threw his fourth touchdown pass of the day to Jon Alandt in the fourth quarter.

Albion capped the scoring as seniors Chad Hamilton and Robert Secord hooked up on a 5-yard pass.

Anthony Waite led the defense with 12 tackles and an interception. Harrison Plaskey added eight tackles, including two for loss.
