KENOSHA, Wis. – A longstanding Albion College men's swimming record fell Saturday.
Nate Kozycki, a first-year swimmer from Grand Rapids, dropped nearly two seconds in completing the 100-yard butterfly in 49.47 during the morning preliminaries to break the record Ed Weber established during the 1992-93 season. While he went slower in the evening final, Kozycki set a time of 50.16 for an easy win over Carthage's Lucas Linder (51.25).
Kozycki also swam on Albion's winning relays Saturday night. The 400 medley team (Parker Belmore, Lucas Harder, Kozycki and Derek Bosko) achieved a time of 3:26.63 to win by 3 ½ seconds. The 200 freestyle relay team (Bosko, Kozycki, Belmore and Tom Parsons) set a time of 1:24.96.
Bosko dropped his 100 freestyle time by nearly two seconds, winning the event by a two-second margin over Carthage's Chris Russo. Bosko's time in the final was 45.27 seconds.
Individually, Belmore finished fourth in the 100 butterfly and fifth in the 200 individual medley, Harder was fourth in the 200 breaststroke and sixth in the 200 IM, Parsons was third in the 200 backstroke, Nick Burris and Nick Deppner were seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 100 butterfly, and Hunter Jackman was eighth in the 200 breaststroke.
