HOLLAND, Mich. – Anna Hargrove and Lauren Pawelec were part of relay teams that broke Albion College records on the first full day of competition in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Championships.
Joined by Madison Vaive and Molly Blank, the Britons completed the 200-yard freestyle relay in a third-place time of 1:37.30. In the 400 medley relay, Hailey Sambor and Sarah Kilbride joined in as the Britons posted a fifth-place time of 4:02.06.
Hargrove and Kilbride also scored for Albion in individual championship final races Thursday night. Hargrove sprinted to seventh in the 50-yard freestyle (24.68 seconds) and Kilbride was eighth in the 200-yard individual medley (2:16.44).
Laura Steavenson raced in the 500-yard freestyle championship final, finishing fifth (5:15.48).
In Thursday night consolation races, Haley DeFeyter was 14th in the 500 freestyle (5:23.94), Abigail Slager and Mackenzie Chesley were 12th and 15th in the individual medley, Pawelec, Vaive and Blank finished ninth, 12th, and 13th, respectively, in the 50 freestyle.
Albion has 156 points after the first full day of competition, good for fourth place in the team standings. Hope (262), Kalamazoo (254) and Calvin (253) are tightly bunched at the top of the ladder.
The Friday schedule includes the 200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 100 backstroke.
