SHENANDOAH, Texas – Albion missed achieving honorable mention All-America status by less than a second in the 200-yard freestyle relay on the second day of the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championship.
Derek Bosko, Sebastian Tostado, Parker Belmore and David Alday achieved a time of 1:24.22. The University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point captured the final honorable mention All-America award, finishing 16th in 1:23.53.
Swimming individually in the 200 freestyle, Tostado shaved nearly three tenths of a second off his school record when he completed the race in 1:40.42.
"The depth across the country has been an eye-opening experience for Sebastian," Albion Head Coach Jake Taber said.
Taber believes the order of events is set in a way for the Albion swimmers to build each day. The 800 freestyle relay and Tostado's entry in the 100 backstroke are due up on Friday.
"The indicators are it will turn in a positive way tomorrow and Saturday," Taber said. "If we put a great race together, we'll have a chance to score in the 800 free relay."
