Britons Complete Season

Box Score

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Albion College outgained Kalamazoo College, 422-352, Saturday, but the Britons came away empty on two red zone trips and committed four turnovers in a 34-17 loss to their Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival.

The day started well for Albion.

After the defense forced a three-and-out on the first possession of the game, Sam Blanzy connected with his brother, Brian, for a 13-yard gain to give Albion a first down at the Kalamazoo 20. Albion needed a yard on fourth down at the Kalamazoo 11, but Matt Burczyk and Jakob Frederick combined to stuff Briton running back Zach Serzo for a loss.

After an exchange of punts, Kalamazoo gashed the Albion defense as Alex White connected with Dylan Padget for 13 yards on third and 10, and White scrambled 40 yards for a touchdown on the next play.

Serzo ripped off a 17-yard run and Sam Blanzy threw a 19-yard pass to Marlon Martin and a 17-yard strike to Tyler Sykes as Albion moved the ball to the Kalamazoo 13. The Britons were unable to overcome a false start penalty, though, and settled for Andrew Fabry's 30-yard field goal to make the score 7-3 with 2:25 left in the first quarter.

Albion was driving toward a score early in the second quarter – it gained a first down at the Kalamazoo 25 – but Sam Blanzy lost a fumble.

After another exchange of punts, White hooked up with Anthony Giovanni for a 68-yard touchdown with nine minutes left in the second quarter.

Albion was intercepted on its half of the field, leading to White's 14-yard touchdown strike to Collin Feilla with 41 seconds left in the first half.

Albion took the second half kickoff and needed just seven plays to reach the endzone. Jack Flater threw to Connor Carbary for gains of 18 and 24 yards to set up Darion Darnell-Boyd's first career touchdown run on a 2-yard plunge.

Flater threw his first career touchdown pass in the fourth quarter, a 1-yard pop to tight end Kyle Winchell.

Kalamazoo's second half scoring came on White's 13-yard pass to Brett Lehman in the third quarter and Clay Wilkey's 1-yard run in the fourth.

Serzo had his first career 100-yard rushing game with 107 yards on 17 carries. Carbary hauled in seven passes for 85 yards.

Jose Rodriguez and Hunter Shaw led the Albion defense with nine tackles apiece.
