GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Sophomore Nate Kozycki won the 100-yard butterfly and he was part of the 200 medley relay team that finished second on the second day of a quadrangular meet at Calvin College.
Kozycki was .59 better than Calvin's Brett Stoughton over the final 50 to take the butterfly in 52.05. He turned in a 22.64 split, and Sebastian Tostado went 21.50 as Albion (1:36.73) was unable to reel in Calvin (1:35.53) in the medley relay.
Later in the meet, Stoughton (1:59.22) edged Kozycki (2:00.04) in the 200 fly.
First-year swimmer Mac Robertson finished the 1,650 freestyle in 17:17.66, good for second place.
Derek Bosko scored third place in the freestyle events. He went 24.40 over the first 50 to take the early lead and finished the 200 in 1:48.73. He had the lead after going 22.52 over the first 50 in the 100, but he touched the wall in 47.96.
Robertson, Parker Belmore, Bosko and Tostado engaged Calvin in a close race for second in the 800 free relay. Tostado's anchor split (1:45.18) got Albion close, but it finished third in 7:14.78). The Knights set a time of 7:14.25.
Albion also took third in the 400 free relay as Len Ciemniecki, Bosko, Belmore and Tostado set a time of 3:10.96.
"The men had a better meet all the way around," Head Coach Jake Taber said in compariung the Britons performance from a week ago. "We are still learning about the first-year class and how that fits into the pieces we'll have coming back at the semester break."
In diving, Jake Burris (444.95) and Jake Maurer (398.75) were second and fourth, respectively, in the 3-meter competition.
Albion returns to dual meet competition against a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival next Saturday when it hosts Kalamazoo College for a 1 o'clock event inside the Dean Aquatic Center.
