Box Score ALBION, Mich. – The Albion College women's soccer team followed a familiar script Saturday afternoon. It's one the Britons are eager to rewrite.
Morgan Sanderson finished a breakaway opportunity in the seventh minute, and while Albion carried the action in the second half, Trine University hung on for a 1-0 victory at the Davis Athletic Complex.
"I won't fault the effort of our group, especially in the second half," Albion Head Coach Eric Scott said. "We responded well to the halftime adjustments and we looked better. I thought we were one pass away a couple of times."
Scott credited Alyssa Brooks and Emily Wolford for leading the Briton defense that allowed just three shots on goal.
Albion finished with 12 shots on goal. Jenna Urso was credited with three shots on goal and Riley Burnette, Lauren Cross and Mikaela Ray all had two.
Adding to Albion's offensive frustration, Domenique Sarnecky got her head on a corner kick in the second half, but her attempt glanced off the crossbar.
Albion has a week to prepare for its next contest against a Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association rival. The Britons will host Olivet College next Saturday (Sept. 24) in a game that kicks off at noon.
