Box Score TIFFIN, Ohio – Head Coach Jody May advised his club it would emerge victorious if it was mentally strong in overtime.
The Britons were indeed tough as Caden Ebeling buried a 3-point basket to tie the score with 34 seconds left and Jaylin Fordham hit a pair of free throws on the next possession for a 74-71 victory over Heidelberg University.
Albion was in position to win the game in regulation. Ryan Lowe's layup with 42 seconds left put the Britons ahead 63-57.
"They could have come out bummed out about what happened in the last minute of regulation," May said. "I told them it was 0-0. Let's win this five minute overtime.
I'm proud of how we played after struggling in the games against two quality programs last weekend," May added. "This team, if they are together, can beat any team on our schedule."
The Britons were unable to protect the lead, turning the ball over twice while Chris Moxley and James Hanley combined to make all six of their shots from the line as Heidelberg forged a tie.
Albion had the last possession of regulation, but Corey Wheeler's shot in the lane went begging.
Heidelberg scored on consecutive possessions – Hanley finished a layup and Kiere Bennie hit a pair from the line – to lead by three with a minute left in overtime.
Albion's Wheeler led all players, scoring a season-high 20. Robert Ryan added 10 points and eight assists.
Bennie, who was 8-of-10 from the line, led Heidelberg with 15 points.
The Britons will play at home for the first time this season with a 3 p.m. Saturday date with the University of Mount Union.
