Divers Move Closer To NCAA Championships

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Albion College sophomores Henry Swett and Jake Burris moved closer to advancing to the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championship after their performance on the 3-meter board on the first day of competition in the regional diving championship at Calvin College.

Swett achieved a school-record score of 542.75 to finish third. Burris also surpassed the old school standard, finishing fifth at 509.

Swett earned at least 60 points on three of his dives, including 62.1 on an inward 2 ½ somersault tuck. Three of the judges awarded scores of 8 and two more gave him scores of 7 ½.

Burris scored at least 50 on five dives. His forward 3 ½ somersault tuck achieved scores of 6 ½ and 7 from the judges, and with a 2.8 degree of difficulty, the dive earned him 56 points.

Swett and Burris will compete on the 1-meter board Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
