ALBION, Mich. – Albion College picked up three important points in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association women's soccer standings Wednesday night when it scored a 1-0 victory over Kalamazoo College.

Albion (3-1-1 against MIAA rivals) is tied with Adrian College for fourth place in the league standings with three contests remaining in the first round of league play.

The Kalamazoo side, second in the MIAA with 13 goals scored in contests against league rivals, was held scoreless for the first time this season.

While Albion Coach Eric Scott says his team has "a ton of respect for the Kalamazoo program", he credited goalkeeper Maggie Troost and defenders Alyssa Brooks, Sarah Castellano, Mikaela Ray, Maggie Shrader and Claire Stoddard for managing the game and keeping Kalamazoo in front of them.

Troost collected four saves to complete her third shutout of the season.

Emily Brittain came on as a substitute midway through the first half and she produced the contest's only score when she knocked in a pass from Riley Burnette with nine minutes remaining in the first half. It was Brittain's first goal at the collegiate level.

Kalamazoo's best scoring chance came in the closing minutes of the first half. Georgie Andrews lofted a high arcing shot that eluded Troost's reach but glanced off the crossbar.

The match was statistically even, with Albion finishing with a 10-9 edge in shots, including a 5-4 edge in shots on goal. Clare Kelley led the Britons with three shots.

Albion, undefeated in its last four outings, will be on the road for its next two matches. The Britons travel to Calvin College for a Saturday night match and to Saint Mary's College next Tuesday.
