ANGOLA, Ind. – Quarterback Kyle Thomas rolled up 459 yards of total offense, however, Albion College was unable to slow down the Trine University offense in a 59-42 loss in Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association football action.

The teams traded touchdowns in the first quarter, with Albion scoring on Doug Freeman's 2-yard run and Kyle Thomas' 22-yard pass to Brian Blanzy.

Trine gained control in the second quarter as Brandon Winters threw a pair of touchdown passes (76 yards to Jeffery Barnett and 63 yards to Jacob Chesney) and Lamar Carswell scored from 6 yards out.

Freeman provided Albion's response with an 8-yard run with 2:39 left in the second quarter. The Britons trailed 35-21 and that was as close as they would get.

Freeman scored his third touchdown of the day on a 1-yard run in the third quarter.

Albion's fourth quarter scoring came on a 30-yard pass as Thomas hooked up with his brother, Justin, and Isaiah Gibson ran in from 2 yards out.

Thomas passed for 314 yards and ran for another 145. He averaged a shade more than 11 yards per carry.

Blanzy was Albion's leading receiver with six catches for 151 yards.

Quinten Jackson led the Albion defense with nine tackles.

Albion (5-3 overall and 2-3 against MIAA rivals) will play its final two games of the season at home. The action begins at noon next Saturday against Finlandia University.
