Burris continues to add to his Albion legacy

GREENSBORO, N.C. – While Jake Burris' career as an Albion College diver is winding down this week with his final appearance in the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships, the senior isn't done adding to his legacy.

Burris, a senior exercise science major from Chelsea, Mich., achieved the best performance ever by an Albion diver in the NCAA Championships when he finished fifth on the 1-meter board Thursday night.

The Greensboro Aquatic Center has been a very good site for Burris. He gained his first-ever All-America award with a sixth place finish in the 1-meter competition in the same pool back in 2016.

Burris achieved a 480.75 total in the final round on Thursday to finish 1.1 points ahead of Mitchell Ryan for fifth place.

Burris started and finished the finals with a flourish. He was awarded 57.20 on a forward 2 ½ somersault with a 2.6 degree of difficulty and 63.70 on a reverse 1 ½ with 1 ½ somersault also with 2.6 DD.

The fifth place finish put 14 points in Albion's column for the meet and the Britons are tied for 20th in the team standings with 16 points.

Burris will be back on the board Saturday as he completes his collegiate career with competition on the 3-meter board.

In swimming events on Thursday, Albion senior Nate Kozycki missed qualifying for an evening race in the 100-yard butterfly. He tied for 17th in the preliminaries at 49.03 seconds. Albion also finished 18th in qualifying for the 400 medley relay (3:21.51).
