Albion Rolls to Victory on Senior Day

Box Score

Albion, Mich.  - The Britons came away victorious with a 90-69 win over Olivet in their final Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Associaton regular-season game of the season. Albion took time to recognize center, Alex Warman, and team manager, Ethan Fennell.

"My junior and senior year we had a culture shift where we really started to win games and buy into the team's mission.   We all became much closer, and things started to go right for us," said Senior Alex Warman.

With 14:20 left in the first half, a layup by Cortez Garland gave the Britons a two-point lead, which they never looked back on.  Garland sparked a quick 8-2 run and helped propel them to a 13-point lead at halftime.

The Britons came out in the second-half just how they ended the first.   Within the first five minutes of the second half, the Britons extended their lead to 20 while eventually hitting their largest edge of 29 with 7:39 left in regulation.

Albion was led by Caden Ebeling with 17 and Juwan Perry not far behind contributing 15 to the effort.  Jamezell Davis, Jr. (14), and Cortez Garland (11) also scored in double-figures. Quinton Armstrong finished two points away from a double-double with eight points and 11 rebounds.

The focus for the Briton's now transitions to Friday when they host the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Post-Season Championships.

"We need to stay locked in.   Everybody knows what our goals are this year, and it is to win that conference tournament and eventually get into the NCAA tournament.   We know what is at stake, so this week is a crucial week for us to prepare," said Junior guard Jamezell Davis, Jr. Albion will have a bye in the first round of the tournament, which is played on Tuesday night.   They will play the winner of #4 Trine and #5 Alma.

The Britons will return to the tournament for the second year in a row except for this year they will play at Kresge Gymnasium.   Last season, they traveled to Trine and defeated Olivet in the semi-final and eventually went on to defeat Trine to gain a bid to the NCAA tournament.

"We have to stay hungry and continue to get better.   Coach May talks about getting better every single day, and at this point in the season, teams either go up or down, so we need to make sure we are going up," said Junior center, Caden Ebeling.

The two semi-finals on Friday will be at 5:30 and 7:30, respectively.  The full bracket and tournament information will be available at www.MIAA.org.

Joe and Julie Serra have given a $5 million leadership gift to launch a fundraising initiative to make two dreams a reality at Albion College. The first is a newly expanded fitness and student activity facility at the site of the current Dow Recreation and Wellness Center. The second is a new or renovated competition facility for the volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball teams that currently call Kresge Gymnasium home.

The College is continuing to raise funds in support of both projects. To learn more, call 517/629-0446 or email advancement@albion.edu
