NOTRE DAME, Ind. -- If you're
Avery Kasanic, you couldn't pick a more perfect time to score your first collegiate goal. Kasanic's goal roke a scoreless tie in the final five minutes, vaulting the Albion College women's soccer team to a crucial 1-0 win over St. Mary's College.
The Britons continue their hot ways, improving to 8-2-1, 3-1-1 in the rugged MIAA. Albion has now won nine straight over the Belles.
After 85 scoreless minutes, the visitors finally broke through in the waning minutes of the contest.
Albion was awarded a corner kick with five minutes on the clock. From the right side of the field,
Megan Loney crossed a beautiful ball into the box.
Anna Morris deflected the ball right to Kasanic, who buried the heroic shot.
The two teams were nearly evenly matched on shots, with the Britons holding a slight 12-10 edge.
Another solid performance by the back line of
Colette Askins,
Lexi Taylor,
Avery Campbell and Kasanic helped the Britons to the conference victory.
Junior goalkeeper Romee Natshcke made six saves to earn her third clean sheet of the season.
"We're proud of how we responded in the second half," said head coach
Eric Scott. "It took us awhile to adjust to the conditions, and St. Mary's was very organized today."
On Wednesday, the Britons welcome Calvin for a 7 p.m. match, which will also serve as senior day for
Ashlyn Wetzel, Taylor,
Maddie Ryan,
Rachael Pustelak and
Athena LeVigne.
