Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men's basketball slips at Rose-Hulman

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Second half struggles hurt the Albion College men's basketball team in a 72-58 setback at Rose-Hulman on Wednesday night. On the young season, the Fightin' Engineers open the year 1-0 as the Brits slip to 0-2.

Senior guard MJ Barnes led all scorers with 21 points. Cortez Carland was the only other Brit to score in double-digits, tallying 14 points on the night.

Four minutes in, Garland knocked down a triple to push the Britons ahead 9-8. Following a stop at the other end, Albion boosted their lead on another three, this one off the hand of Barnes. Albion held the lead for the remainder of the period, and led by as many as five, thanks to another 3-pointer from Barnes.

The visitors took a slim 32-30 lead into halftime.

Out of the half, Rose-Hulman worked to eventually take the lead. A 10-2 run that spanned four minutes gave the hosts a 46-37 lead with 13:32 to play. The gap would be enough for RHIT, as the Britons could not cut the deficit to any smaller than six points.

RHIT found an answer to stop Barnes in the second half, as the senior scored just four points in the final 20 minutes.

Back to back three by the hosts proved to be the dagger, as the FIghtin' Engineers took an 18 point lead with just over three minutes to play.

Albion shot just 39 percent from the floor and 27 percent from deep. RHIT also added 19 second chance points in the game.

Unable to contain a balanced offense, five Rose-Hulman players scored in double figures.

Albion looks to respond with a home game on Saturday against Wisconsin-Stout. Tip off is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
