BEAVER FALLS, Penn. -- A pair of 20-point performances lifted the Albion College men's basketball team to its second win in as many days, handily defeating Geneva College, 91-66. The Brits improve to 2-3 on the young season.
Senior guards
Cortez Garland (22 points) and
MJ Barnes (21 points) led the Britons offensively.
Justin McAbee was the only other Brit in double fights, scoring 10 points and grabbing a team-high seven rebounds.
Devin Holmes also had a solid stat line, scoring eight points and totaling seven rebounds. Garland's six assists was a game-high.
A 15-2 run by Albion that spanned throughout the middle of the first half turned a slim lead into a commanding 29-13 advantage. Six different players scored in the run, including a three from
Lamar Lee that pushed the lead to 14.
With 2:36 in the half, Garland knocked down a triple that extended the lead to 18 points. Geneva sank shots in the final moments, but Albion still held the edge, 42-25 at the break.
The momentum would continue in favor of the Britons, as the first half lead would hold up throughout the remainder of the contest.
Albion finished with 21 assists in the contest, compared to Geneva's six.
At the conclusion of the weekend, Barnes was named the Tournament MVP while Garland and Holmes were named to the All-Tournament Team.
On Tuesday, the Brits will be back on their home court for a tough matchup against Heidelberg University. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
