Welcome back! Brittain scores hat trick in win

Box Score

OLIVET, Mich. -- In her first competition game in 877 days, senior Emily Brittain shined, scoring a hat trick in the Albion College women's soccer team's 3-0 win over Olivet. After missing the 2019 season due to injury, Brittain scored all three Albion goals.

Midfielder Rayna Edwards also tallied two assists as Haley Demers made one save, logging a clean sheet.

Less than two minutes into the match, Edwards connected with Brittain for the first goal of the game. Unable to build their lead in the first half, the Britons took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

In the 61st minute, Brittain doubled the Albion lead with an unassisted goal. The Britons kept pressuring the Olivet defense before another Albion goal broke through. The final tally came in the final five minutes, with an Edwards feed to Brittain.

With the hat trick, these were Brittain's first goals since Sep. 26, 2018 (912 days).

Albion controlled the tempo for most of the match, outshooting the Comets, 14-3. The Brits also had eight corner kicks compared to Olivet's one.

"Obviously Em was awesome today taking her chances well," said head coach Eric Scott. "Back line and Haley deserve credit for a great game in the back … the whole group was excellent dealing with a tough, gritty team to play against."

Albion will be back on their home pitch on Monday when they host Alma College. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
