CHICAGO, Ill. -- A halftime deficit was erased as a young Albion College men's soccer team took home a 4-2 win on opening day over Illinois Tech.
Brett Swaton had a stellar day for the Britons, scoring a goal and contributing a pair of assists.
The hosts got out to a 2-0 lead with nearly five minutes to go before the half. In the waning seconds of the period, freshman
Brayden Stavros cut the IIT lead in half with his first collegiate goal. The shot came off a feed from
Tyler Burnette, as the Brits trailed 2-1 heading into halftime.
In the 62nd minute,
Grady Lycan scored the equalizer off a pass from Swaton. Less than a minute later, Albion scored off a corner when Swaton found
John Mullen -- proving to be the game-winner.
With six minutes on the clock, Swaton inflated the Albion lead to two goals with an insurance goal, thanks to a pass from
David Mexicano.
Playing the second half, freshman
Carson Foor earned the win, making three saves for the Britons.
With seven corner kicks compared to IIT's one, the Britons kept possession in enemy territory.
The Britons will host Carroll on Sunday afternoon for a 12 p.m. kickoff. The match will serve as the first home event for Albion Athletics this fall.
