Megan Loney secured the first win of the season for the Albion College women's soccer team in a 3-2 win over MSOE on Saturday evening. The Brits even their record at 1-1 overall on the young season.
10 minutes into the contest, junior
Rayna Edwards found
Quinn Natschke for the first goal of the season for Albion, pushing the Brits up 1-0 early on.
In the 19th minute, Loney scored her first goal of the day, an unassisted strike to give the Britons a 2-0 lead. Less than three minutes later, Loney found the back of the net for a second time, giving Albion a commanding 3-0 lead not even midway through the first half.
MSOE found its stride and eventually put a goal on the board in the waning seconds of the half, as the Brits took a 3-1 lead into the locker room.
The Engineers continued to threaten as the match went on, but junior goalkeeper
Haley Demers kept turning MSOE away. Demers (1-0) made nine saves in the contest. The second MSOE goal game in the final seconds of the contest, but the Engineers were unable to find the equalizer.
Edwards, Loney and
Avery Campbell all tallied four shots in the match.
The Engineers outshot Albion 25-15 in the match, also having eight more corner kicks than the Brits.
Albion will close out the Battle of the Border weekend against host school Carthage on Sunday evening. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. EST.
