Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's hoops locks down Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Only allowing 14 points in the second half, the Albion College women's basketball team earned a lopsided 80-38 win on Wednesday. In three of the four quarters, the Briton defense stifled Kalamazoo, with the Hornets scratching across seven points in those periods.

In just 17 minutes, Elena Welker led the offense with 16 points. Lolo Reed added 12 points while hauling in a game-high eight rebounds. Becca Ross (11) and Cierra Cole (10) also contributed double-digit scoring efforts for the Britons.

Albion improves to 13-2 overall and a spotless 6-0 mark in conference play.

Junior Romee Natschke scored a career-high seven points in the win. Fellow junior Audrey DeWaters secured six rebounds – four on the offensive glass.

From the start, the story was all Albion. After just 10 minutes of action, the scoreboard saw the visitors leading by a dominant 25-7 margin. Four minutes into the game, the Britons were already up by nine points, as a triple from Welker lifted Albion early. Ending the first quarter on a 9-0 run, the Brits were off to an impressive start.

The Hornets narrowly outscored Albion in the second quarter, but the Britons worked to build a sizable lead early. At halftime, the Britons led, 39-24.

Out of the half, the Britons exploded for a 19-3 run, leading by 20+ for the remainder of the contest. Nearly every Albion player that checked in was involved in that run, making it difficult for the Hornets to focus in on one player.

Albion shot an efficient 51.5 percent from the floor. Led by Reed and DeWaters, the Britons tallied 22 second chance points, compared to just two from Kalamazoo.

Boasting one of the deepest lineups in recent history, Albion's bench outscored the hosts, 38-0.

On Saturday, the Britons will have their toughest test of the season when they travel to No. 1 Hope. Tip off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
