Scot-free! Five seniors score in final Homecoming contest

Albion won its second straight to move to 2-1 in the MIAA.

ALBION – With a win on Saturday afternoon, the Albion College women's soccer team capped off a perfect Homecoming weekend, defeating Alma College, 5-2. With volleyball and football's wins this weekend, all Briton host teams sent their visiting friends and family home happy.

In the 21st minute, senior Megan Piontkowsky broke a scoreless tie with her first goal of the season. Despite many decent looks throughout the period, the score would remain 1-0 in favor of the Scots at the half.

Less than five minutes into the new half, Megan Loney's fourth goal of the season came at a perfect time. The beautiful shot boosted the lead to 2-0 with 40 minutes to play.

It didn't take long for Alma to cut the Albion lead in half, scoring just a few moments later.

Rayna Edwards put the Britons back on top by a pair of goals midway through the second half with a gorgeous shot past the Alma keeper. Her fifth goal of the season came off a feed from Loney.

With 16 minutes on the clock, Kaitlyn Piontkowsky drew a penalty kick. The senior buried a shot in the back of the net to extend the lead and join her twin in the scoring column.

Nina Smith added her name to the stat sheet with one of the most beautiful goals off a free kick outside the box. The goal was the senior's first of the season.

Prior to the game, the Britons recognized its all-female Hall of Fame class, which was inducted Friday night. The class consists of Sue Ray, Susan Grettenberger, Jill Barry, Kelly Lewis, Betsy Netherton, Ashley Collins, Chelsea Anthony, Emily Magyar and Morgan Watler. The team inductees were 1980 field hockey and 2011 tennis.

Albion improves to 5-2-3 overall, 2-1 in the conference.

On Wednesday, the Brits host St. Mary's for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
