Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's soccer withstands rain, wins third straight

Goals by Rayna Edwards, Megan Loney and Olivia Buchweitz lifted the Brits.

ALBION – On a rainy and gloomy evening, the Albion College women's soccer team walked away with a sunny and joyful 3-0 win over St. Mary's College. Winners of three straight, Albion improves to 6-2-3 overall, 3-1-0 in the MIAA.

After playing to a scoreless 35 minutes, Albion finally broke through late in the first half. Despite many good looks, the Britons came up empty. In the 37th minute, Megan Loney drilled a beautiful ball past the STM keeper from the top of the box to put the hosts ahead.

With under a minute remaining in the half, the Britons had a corner kick opportunity. Abby Rose's ball bounced once before Rayna Edwards poked a shot into the back of the net, boosting the cushion to 2-0 at the half.

Albion maintained possession for a majority of the second half but did not get their third goal until late in the contest. Lily Miller slotted a well-played pass to Olivia Buchweitz. The freshman's left footed strike found the opposite corner of the net for the final Albion tally of the evening.

The Britons outshot the visitors by a 23-2 margin. Without making a save, Becca Ross (3-0) earns the win and the clean sheet in goal.

On Saturday, the Brits will travel to Hope College, hoping to avenge a loss in PKs in the MIAA Semifinals a season ago. Kick off is scheduled for 12 p.m.
