Men's basketball comes up short in home opener

ALBION – In their home opener, the Albion College men's basketball team came up just short against Ohio Wesleyan University. A Ken Thomas double-double was not enough, as the Battling Bishops prevailed 73-67.

Thomas led Albion with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Three other Albion players finished in double figures – Khy Winston (13), Fred Garland (13) and Jonathan Armstead-Wilkerson (10). 

Ohio Wesleyan went up by six points midway through the first half, as neither team could gain significant momentum. Four points from Thomas and a bucket by Armstead-Wilkerson gave the Britons a slim one point lead with 6:44 left in the opening half. Another Armstead-Wilkerson basket extended the lead to three, but OWU had a response. 

A sharpshooting game for the visitors helped them hold a 34-31 edge at the half. The Battling Bishops connected on 48 percent of their shots from three. 

With 8:24 to play, Garland knocked down a 3-pointer to break a tie. The Albion lead was short-lived, as OWU took the lead for good with five minutes on the clock. 

On Tuesday, the Brits will play Heidelberg on the road. Tip off in Tiffin is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
