Garland's double-double not enough at Berg

TIFFIN, Ohio – Fred Garland recorded his first career double-double, but the Albion College men's basketball team came up short at Heidelberg University, 92-76. The Berg – a 2022 NCAA Tournament team, could not miss from beyond the arc, draining 18 of 35 attempts. 

Garland, a junior, scored a team-high 22 points and hauled in 11 rebounds. 

Ken Thomas tacked on 18 points as Jonathan Armstead-Wilkerson chipped in with 15. 

Albion got out to a quick 12-3 lead, but the hosts slowly chipped away before pulling ahead at halftime. A late run by the Student Princes saw the hosts taking a 45-28 lead into the locker room. 

Midway through the second half, Albion cut the deficit – as large as 18 at one point – to single digits. As they had all night, Heidelberg had an answer at the other end of the floor – primarily a 3-pointer. 

The Student Princes scored 20 points off 13 Albion turnovers. 

On Saturday, the Brits will host Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology. Tip off in Albion is set for 4 p.m.
