Women’s soccer bows out of MIAA Tournament

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — On Wednesday, the Albion College women's soccer team saw its season come to a close, falling to Calvin University, 4-1, in the MIAA Semifinals. The No. 5 seed Brits wrap up their season with a 7-5-5 record.

Three of Calvin's four goals came off set pieces. The Knights scored two goals off corner kicks in the first half to hold a 2-0 lead at the break. Goals in the 22nd and 25th minutes lifted the hosts to the two goal lead.

Albion came out of the half putting pressure on the Calvin defense and getting more opportunities. In the 73rd minute, the Britons were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Megan Loney's ball found Anna Morris, who netted a hard strike past the Calvin keeper to cut the deficit in half.

Shortly after, the Knights answered right back with a goal, regaining a two-goal advantage.

"We are in a privileged position as coaches - especially here at an institution that values learning taking place inside and outside the classroom," said head coach Eric Scott. "Working with student-athletes extends that privilege, and what can sometimes hide in the shadows is that the student-athletes impact us more than we do them. As their coach, and an alumnus, we are proud of the way they represented the department and college tonight and throughout the season."

Calvin outshot Albion, 23-9. Becca Ross made seven saves in goal.
