Men's hoops comes up short at Calvin

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – It was a tough ending to the regular season for the Albion College men's basketball team, suffering a 67-60 loss to Calvin University. Albion wraps up the regular season with a 13-12, 9-5 record. 

Despite four players finishing in double figures, the Britons would still come up short in the regular season finale. Ken Thomas led the Brits with 12 points, while Justin McAbee tacked on 11. 

Both Chanse Crittendon and Fred Garland added 10 for the Brits. 

Neither team led by more than five points as the teams traded blows throughout the first half. 
Calvin took a 31-30 lead with 1:11 on the clock, courtesy of a pair of free throws. Neither team could find the bottom of the basket until the waning seconds of the period. 

After the Knights were whistled for a moving screen, the Britons got the ball back with 5.5 seconds on the clock. Fred Garland easily cruised through the Calvin defense, hitting a layup at the buzzer and giving Albion a 32-31 lead at the half. 

Despite a small lead by the Brits early on in the second half, Calvin came right back to steal the lead. Albion kept pace with the Knights until the final minutes of the contest. A big corner three put the Knights up by eight with just over three minutes to play. 

Calvin scored 16 points off 10 Albion turnovers. 

On Tuesday, Albion will for sure host the first round of the MIAA Tournament, with a game time tentatively set for 7 p.m. An opponent and ticketing information will be announced in  the coming days.
