Game Recap: Softball |

Softball swept in Florida finale

FORT MYERS, Fla. — It was a tough final day in the Sunshine State for the Albion College softball team. Unable to find timely hits, the Britons were swept by SUNY-Delhi and Kenyon. Albion concludes the trip with a 5-7 mark, which is what they stand overall on the young season.

GAME ONE: SUNY-Delhi 3 Albion 1

Despite a 10 strikeout performance from Ashley Pion, the Briton offense was unable to back their pitcher, only scoring one run.

The Broncos scored in the top of the first before Albion was finally able to answer in the third. Lilly Patillo poked a ball into left to drive in Jacqueline Jozefczyk to even the game at one.

The final two runs for the Broncos would come in the sixth, one of which was unearned.

GAME TWO: Kenyon 6 Albion 3

After dropping their season opener to the Ladies, Albion was unable to avenge the loss six days later. Kenyon struck first, taking a 1-0 lead after one.

Albion scored all three runs in the top of the second. Dylan Cardinale reached on an error and Kenadie Baareman was hit by a pitch. The pair scooted over on a groundout.

With two away, junior Mya Nummer blooped a single into center, driving in both runners. One batter later, Jacqueline Jozefczyk hammered a double into the left center gap, scoring Nummer for a 3-1 lead.

Kenyon would go on to score five unanswered runs — two in the fourth, one in the fifth and three in the sixth.

Albion will have some time off to recover before returning to play in Michigan. On Mar. 21, the Britons are scheduled to have their home opener against Oberlin.
