Track and field opens outdoor season in Myrtle Beach

MYRTLE BEACH, SC – The Albion College track and field team visited Myrtle Beach to compete in their annual Collegiate Challenge, a two day meet. Many Britons scored for their teams seeing both teams finish in the top ten.

The women scored 55 points, earning seventh place while the men scored 42 points for ninth. 

The 4 x 100 meter relay, consisting of Trevor Knowles, Will Davis, KingDavid Adedapo and DeMario Chapman, placed second with a time of 43.50. 

Meanwhile, over in the field events, discus thrower Ed Hines placed 8 with a distance of 38.43m. Connor Dewan took eighth in the shot put with a throw of 12.83m.

Mason Darden placed fifth in the hammer throwing competition (49.42m). 

In the long jump, Knowles placed fifth with a 6.84m jump. 

In the triple jump, the Britons saw three take home a top-eight finish – Knowles (fourth), Henry Wehrly (sixth) and Ronnie Puczkowski (seventh).

Will Davis took seventh in the 200 meter dash.

Finally, Brayden Stavors placed fifth in the pole vault with 3.51m. 

On the women's side, Avery Campbell placed third in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.24. 

Samantha Bieth placed second in the steeplechase with a time of 11:42.79.

Nayaisha Edmond finished eighth in the 400 meter hurdles (1:13.26). 

Megan McCulloch finished fourth in the 3000 meter run (10:26.95) and third in the 5000 meter run (17:51.53). 

The 4 x 100 meter relay team, consisting of Layla Wilks, Campbell, Elena Welker and Cianna Brown took fifth.

The 4 x 800 meter relay team, consisting of Helena Abbott, Olivia DeGraaf, Avery Roundtree and Bieth finish sixth.

Anna Albaugh placed sixth in the hammer throw with 45.21m and seventh in shot put with 11.28m. The senior also placed sixth in the discus while freshman Tess Anthony was right behind her in seventh. 

Elena Welker, a high jumper as well, placed fourth with 1.48m. 

Lauren McDowell placed eighth in the long jump with 5.19m.

Ashley Dubois took fifth in the triple lump for the Britons.

The Britons scored 35.5 points total and placed seventh as a team. The teams will return to Albion next week for some much needed rest before heading to Crawfordsville, IN for the Robert H. Johnson Invite on March 26th.
