Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

WLAX hangs on for win at home

ALBION – Able to fend off a late comeback, the Albion College women's lacrosse team defeated Aquinas College, 20-18. The Saints found the back of the net eight times in the final period, but the Britons built a large enough advantage to secure the win.

Bolstered by an 11-point effort from Chrystelle Lopez, the Brits are back in the win column, moving to 5-2 on the season. The senior midfielder scored six goals and dished out five assists in the win.

Destiny Okon and Addie Pastor both registered four-goal, one-assist performances.

Early on, Pastor, Lopez and Aaliyah Eudabe built a 5-1 lead for the Britons. The visitors charged back in the first, as Albion held a 6-4 lead after one quarter. The teams would trade goals throughout the second quarter in an evenly matched period.

Albion held a 9-7 lead before rallying for a pair of goals to close out the half. Okon and Lopez capitalized on free position goals for an 11-7 lead at the break.

Out of the half, the story was all Albion. Pastor ignited the second half scoring before Okon and Lopez followed up the junior's goal to push the lead to 14-7. The Saints would score three times in the third, but Albion tallied the final blow of the period. Angelina Mendieta connected with Eudabe, giving the Brits a 17-10 lead heading into the final quarter.

Aquinas erupted for eight goals in the period, eventually closing the gap to 17-16. With 9:17 on the clock, the Britons called timeout to regroup. Okon won the draw and it eventually led to a goal from senior captain Abby Sheklow

90 seconds later, Sheklow capitalized on a man-up opportunity, pushing Albion's lead to 19-16. Sheklow tallied three goals in the win.

Okon (8) and Pastor (7) led the team in draw controls. Defensively, Lopez and freshman Kyndall Lewis caused three turnovers each.

Senior Alexis Robinson earned the win, making nine saves in net.

The teams were statistically close in shots (33-31), turnovers (24-20) and draw controls (22-20).

Albion will have a week off before heading to Illinois for a night game at North Central. Game time is set for 7 p.m. CST on Mar. 23.
