Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

MLAX knocks off Kenyon behind freshman goalie

GAMBIER, Ohio – Freshman Jack Erickson was stellar in his first collegiate start, leading the Albion College men's lacrosse team to a gritty 13-12 win over a solid Kenyon College team. Erickson made 17 saves in the contest, giving the Britons an impressive win and improving to 6-1 on the season.

Both Ethan Rottell and Jace Conley had four-point afternoons for the Brits. It was an extremely competitive contest, with the teams trading goals, forcing turnovers and capitalizing in transition.

Rottell got the visitors on the board early before an Albion turnover led to the tying goal by the Lords. The score would remain tied at one until six minutes remained in the first quarter. Albion was quick on the clear to find Rottell netting his second goal of the day.

The Lords knotted the score before Sam Puzevic gave the Brits the lead back with 27 seconds to play in the first. Kenyon won the faceoff and found the equalizer, as the teams stood tied at three at the end of one.

Two straight goals from sophomore Timmy Salinas would put the Britons ahead, 5-3 to open the second quarter. Kenyon worked to even the score before a late strike from Andrew Miller gave the visitors a temporary lead. Determined, the Lords would tie the score before the break, as the teams went into halftime all tied up at six.

Kenyon drew first blood out of the half, scoring twice. WIth 10:14 left in the third, Conley – the MIAA's leader in points – tallied his first of the afternoon with a goal. Another Kenyon goal was answered with scores by Rottell and Conley, setting up an incredible final period.

With 6:32 to play, Miller's second goal of the game gave the Britons a 12-11 lead. Moments later, Conley provided Albion with a two goal cushion with 3:03 to play. The goal would prove critical, as the Lords tacked on one late goal.

Kenyon dominated the offensive game, outshooting the Britons 56-34.

Albion struggled from the faceoff X, winning just eight of 30 matchups. The Britons committed a season-high 23 turnovers in the win.

The Britons will play another tough NCAC opponent on Wednesday when they travel to Ohio Wesleyan. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
