Tennis opens MIAA action

ALBION – It was a tough day for the Albion College men's and women's tennis teams in their MIAA opener. Both teams fell to a tough Hope College squad, 9-0, on Saturday.

On the men's side, the first doubles team of Brett Gurzell and Drake Malcolm dropped a tight 8-5 match. At third doubles, Cecil Burkhart and Michael Polizzi fell in their match by an 8-4 decision.

At singles, Patrick Smoker dropped his first set in a tiebreaker, 7-6(4).

As for the women's team, Saige Jost and Josie Dunn dropped their match at second singles, 8-2.

On Tuesday, the men's team will travel to Adrian College while the women will play the Bulldogs on Wednesday. Both matches are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
