Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

California natives shine in west coast opener

WHITTIER, Calif. – They always say there's no place like home.

California natives Abby Sheklow, Destiny Okon and Chrystelle Lopez combined for 18 points in the Albion College women's lacrosse team's 19-16 win over Whittier College. Lopez led all scorers with five goals and two assists as Okon and Sheklow each netted four goals.

Winners of three straight, the Britons improve to 3-1 overall on the young season.

Courtesy of Sheklow and Okon, Albion went ahead 2-0 early on. Whittier responded quickly, swinging the score to a 3-2 Poet lead. Lopez went on to even the game with a free position goal before sophomore Keiley Black gave the Brits a 4-3 lead. A late man-down goal from junior captain Addie Pastor gave Albion a 5-4 lead after one.

The teams would trade goals throughout the second quarter. Trailing 8-7, Albion scored three goals in 90 seconds to take a 10-8 lead. Two goals from Lopez and another from Aaliyah Eudabe helped the Britons gain the lead and take a 10-9 lead into halftime.

After Whittier evened the score in the third, Albion rattled off four straight for a 14-10 lead. In that span came two of Sheklow's four goals. The four goal lead would be enough for the Brits to end their first California contest with a win.

The Poets held a 38-27 edge in shots.

Senior goalie Alexis Robinson made 14 saves in the win.

Albion will continue their west coast trip tomorrow night with a contest at California Lutheran. Game time is set for 10 p.m. EST.
