Women's lacrosse handles Hope

ALBION – 1,111 … and won.

It's been 1,111 days since the Albion College women's lacrosse team defeated Hope College. On Tuesday in dominant fashion, the Britons defeated the Flying Dutch, 16-6. Albion, winners of six straight, improves to 10-2 overall, 3-0 in the conference.

KEY STATS

Abby Sheklow was unstoppable, scoring on all five shots she took for a game-high five goals. Destiny Okon, Addie Pastor and Chrystelle Lopez all recorded hat tricks, giving the Brits a balanced scoring attack.

Senior goalie Alexis Robinson continued her stellar season, making 15 saves in the win. Her 53.9 save percentage leads the MIAA.

In addition to her three goals, Lopez dished out six assists for a nine point effort. Her six assists marks a new career-high for the senior.

HOW IT HAPPENED

30 seconds into the game, Pastor put the Britons on the board with a goal off a pass from Lopez. After Hope evened the game at one apiece, Albion scored the final three to hold a 4-1 lead after one period. Okon, Pastor and freshman Aaliyah Eudabe all found the back of the net in the opening quarter.

A Hope goal was quickly answered by another strike from Pastor. The Flying Dutch had a response, cutting the Briton lead to 5-4. Albion closed out the final 10 minutes of the half on a 4-0 run, boosting their lead to five at the half. In that stretch, the Britons got a pair of goals from both Sheklow and Lopez.

Midway through the third quarter, Lopez broke a scoring lull with back to back goals less than a minute apart. With the Britons holding a decent advantage, Sheklow struck again for another goal, as Albion led 12-6 after three.

In the fourth, freshman Kellie Flynn found the back of the net for a seven-goal lead. Later in the period, Angelina Mendieta found Okon for a beautiful spin move and score, as Albion held all of the momentum in the final period.

BEYOND THE BOX

Albion outshot Hope in the game, 35-27.

The Britons were effective on the clear, converting 22 of 26 attempts.

Lopez controlled five draws in the win for the Britons.

In addition to her mesmerizing performance in goal, Robinson caused five turnovers and picked up four ground balls.

UP NEXT
