Softball suffers sweep at Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. –The Albion College softball team opened MIAA action on Saturday, being swept by Adrian College, 4-1 and 5-2. 

Adrian scored three runs in the bottom of the first to take a 3-0 lead. The hosts tacked on one in the third before Albion got on the scoreboard in the sixth. 

Freshman Dylan Cardinale led off the sixth with a triple to right field. With two away, pinch hitter Kenadie Baareman doubled home Cardinale for the only Albion run of the game. 

Cardinale and Jacqueline Jozefczyk recorded two hits apiece. 

Albion left eight runners on in game one.

In the nightcap, Albion's 2-0 lead quickly slipped away. Junior shortstop Shanyn Jewell crushed a one-out double to left center and moved to third when Chloe Miller reached on an error. With two away, freshman Megan Maiuri slapped a single to right, plating Jewell for a 1-0 lead. Baareman reached to follow up Maiuri, driving in Baareman for a 2-0 lead. 

Adrian struck back in the top of the next inning, scoring four runs off five hits. The lead would be plenty for the Bulldogs, sweeping the MIAA opener. 

Albion's offensive struggles continued into the nightcap, leaving 14 runners stranded. The Britons had three hits in the game, two coming from Maiuri. 

The Brits will host Defiance College, weather permitting, tomorrow at 1 and 3 p.m. It is a makeup doubleheader from Mar. 24.
