Softball struggles at home

ALBION – Unable to respond after Saturday's sweep, the Albion College softball team was swept by Defiance College, 9-0 and 8-5 on Sunday. 

It was a tough opener for the Brits, falling to the Yellow Jackets 9-0. Albion collected just three hits while the Yellow Jackets pushed across runs in every inning. 

Hannah Petty, Megan Maiuri and Lizzie Bissett had the only hits for Albion in game one.

Ashley Pion (5-7) took the loss in the circle. 

Three runs by Defiance in the top of the first did not go answered until the home half of the second. Dylan Cardinale and Shanyn Jewell smacked one-out back to back singles. After Olivia Polak pinch ran for Cardinale, the senior scored off a base hit from Lilly Patillo. 

Patillo gave the Britons two more runs in the fourth with a home run to left center, driving in Kacy Rossi as well. 

Maiuri knocked an RBI single later in the game, following a triple and an error off the bat of Rossi. The rally would not be enough for Albion, dropping the non conference twinbill. 

Albion heads to Bluffton on Tuesday for games at 3 and 5 p.m.
