Softball splits at Bluffton

BLUFFTON, Ohio – In a Tuesday matinee, the Albion College softball team split a non conference makeup with Bluffton University. The Britons held on for a 4-3 win in the opener before dropping a 7-0 decision in game two.

Albion now sits at 8-14 overall.

GAME ONE: Albion 4 Bluffton 3

The early game proved to benefit the Britons, scoring a pair in the top of the first. Sophomore Jacqueline Jozefczyk led off the game with a single up the middle and later moved to second on a groundout. With two away, Lizzie Bissett smacked a single and moved to second on the throw, driving in Jozefczyk. In scoring position for Lilly Patillo, the sophomore scored when Patillo hit a single to center for her team-leading 15th RBI of the season.

Albion tacked on a run in the second, courtesy of Jozefczyk. The sophomore drove a single through the left side to bring in Shanyn Jewell for a 3-0 lead. Patillo kept her hot bat alive in the third, crushing her second home run in as many games, boosting the Briton lead to 4-0 after three innings.

Bluffton touched up Ashley Pion for three runs in the bottom of the sixth. Pion induced a popout to leave the bases loaded and get out of the jam. The junior earned the win, throwing all seven innings, striking out seven while walking none.

GAME TWO: Bluffton 7 Albion 0

Of the seven runs the Beavers put up in the nightcap, only three were earned as Albion committed three errors in the nightcap. Albion's bats were silenced in game two, only able to register five hits in the game. Dylan Cardinale and Jozefczyk each had two hits.

UP NEXT

The schedule has been heavily altered, with teams having conference games to make up as a priority. Albion's Thursday doubleheader against Heidelberg has been postponed and the Brits will now be in action again on Saturday when they welcome Trine. Snow (ugh yes, snow) is in the forecast and may change the plans, but as of now games are slated for 1 and 3 p.m.
