Softball stifled at Hope

HOLLAND, Mich. – Facing off against one of the best teams in the MIAA, the Albion College softball team was swept by Hope College. The Britons dropped a tight 2-0 opener before slipping 11-0 in the nightcap. 

It was a true pitcher's duel in the first game, as each starter limited the opponent to just four hits. Already shattering her single-season strikeout record from a year ago, Ashley Pion struck out three hitters in the game. She currently sits at 139 with two more games on the slate. 

Hope's two runs came in the bottom of the third off three hits. 

In the second game, Hope scored early and often to complete the sweep. Six of the 11 Hope runs were unearned, as the Brits committed three errors in the loss. 

Albion mustered just one hit in the second game, courtesy of Shanyn Jewell. 

On Friday, Albion will wrap up its season with a doubleheader at St. Mary's. Game times are set for 3 and 5 p.m.
