WLAX wins MIAA title behind Sheklow's shot of a lifetime

ALBION – It took an extra three minutes and 46 seconds, but for the first time since 2016, the Albion College women's lacrosse team is the 2022 MIAA Regular Season Champion. Less than one minute into the second overtime, Abby Sheklow launched a midfield shot to lift the Britons over Trine University, 18-17. 

In addition to Sheklow, all five Albion goal scorers had multi-goal performances. Destiny Okon, Aaliyah Eudabe and Addie Pastor all netted four goals, while Sheklow and Chrystelle Lopez all registered a hat trick. 

Alexis Robinson was phenomenal in goal, making 16 gaves.

The Brits lock up the No. 1 seed heading into next week's MIAA Tournament, where they will host No. 4 seed on Wednesday. 

It was a back and forth game, with Albion leading 10-7 at the half. 

With 2:43 on the clock in regulation, Lopez netted the game-tying goal, eventually sending the game into overtime. 

In the first overtime, Robinson made an incredible save to keep the game all locked at 17 and send the game into a second overtime period. 

Trine appeared to score the game-winner, but the goal was waved off due to a crease violation. A heads-up Albion team took advantage of the situation, sprinting down field. Sheklow launched a shot from midfield, securing the regular season title. 

Albion committed six turnovers to Trine's 17. 

The exact opponent on Wednesday is still TBD, as tiebreakers are in effect.
