Okay, Okon! Senior's seven goals lifts WLAX past Alma

ALMA, Mich. – A career day from Destiny Okon lifted the Albion College women's lacrosse team to an 18-6 win over Alma College to open MIAA play. The senior scored seven goals – a career-best – while dishing out two assists in the win.

Albion has won every conference opener of the program's history, dating back to MIAA play commencing in 2013.

Chrystelle Lopez added seven points, all coming in the second half.

In a low scoring first quarter, the Brits held a slim 2-1 lead after one. A pair of goals from Okon helped the visitors hold a small advantage heading into the second period.

After Alma found the equalizer in the second, the Britons scored three straight to pull ahead, 5-2. A pair of goals from Okon was aided by a goal from junior captain Addie Pastor. A late Scot goal was answered by a free position from Okon, giving Albion a 6-3 lead at the half.

Out of the half, Pastor tallied her second goal of the afternoon to build the Albion lead. Following an Alma goal, the Britons went on another four-goal run to take an 11-4 lead. Two from Lopez, one from Okon and another from Pastor sent all the momentum in favor of the visitors. Heading into the final quarter, Albion led, 11-5.

Albion outscored the Scots, 7-1 in the final quarter. Two goals from Lopez and Aaliyah Eudabe, one from Okon, Pastor and Angelina Mendieta secured the first win of the conference slate for Albion.

Senior goalie Alexis Robinson totaled nine saves in net. Albion improves to 8-2 overall.

Albion has now won eight straight over Alma, dating back to 2015.

The Britons will host St. Mary's on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. game.
