Women's wrestling splits with Hiram, Tiffin

HIRAM, Ohio – On Friday, the Albion College women's wrestling team split a pair of duals at the Hiram College duals. The Britons narrowly fell to Tiffin University, 23-18, before defeating the host Terriers, 26-7.

Albion started off the evening against the Division II Dragons. After a double forfeit and a match to Tiffin, sophomore Jayla Oberst got the Britons on the board. Oberst picked up a 10-0 tech fall win at 116 to provide Albion with its first points of the night.

At 123, freshman Lynsey Light went on to pin her opponent in 1:49. Danielle Ruiz followed it up with a win at 130. The freshman gritted out a 10-6 decision. Nationally ranked Hannah Palise then went on to pick up her first pin of the night, this one in 2:05. Tiffin took the next match and two later bouts via forfeit to secure the win.

Freshman Gabby Motz started the Hiram match with a 19-9 tech fall win at 109. After a forfeit went in favor of the Brits, Oberst earned her second win of the evening. At 123, Oberst won a tough 5-1 match.

Ruiz claimed another victory, a 10-0 tech fall. Another forfeit went to the Britons before Palise finished her night with her second pin of the day. Competing at 143, the freshman pinned her opponent in 1:32.

On Thursday, the Britons will host their lone dual match of the season. Albion will take on Trine University in the first half of a women's-men's doubleheader.
